The report also probed FDIC chairman Martin Gruenberg's strong temper. Staying in office would prevent FDIC vice chairman Travis Hill, a Republican, from becoming the agency's acting chairman. The White House said that President Joe Biden would soon nominate a new FDIC chairman and that it expects the Senate to move quickly to confirm the nominee. "I accept the findings of the reports and as chairman, I take full responsibility to anyone who has experienced sexual harassment, discrimination or other misconduct at the FDIC," Gruenberg said at the hearing. Investigators said they set up a hotline in mid-January and received more than 500 complaints — largely from current employees — about sexual harassment, discrimination, and other issues.

The dollar was broadly steady on Monday as investors awaited further clues to help chart the U.S. interest rate path in the wake of cautious comments from Federal Reserve officials, even as inflation shows signs of cooling. The Japanese yen was flat at 155.74 per dollar, with traders on alert for any signs of government intervention. That has prompted traders to trim the amount of easing expected this year to about 46 bps, with only a rate cut in November fully priced in. In other currencies, sterling touched a two-month high of $1.2711 ahead of the crucial UK inflation report due on Wednesday.

Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, at the U.K. Jamie Dimon's days as CEO of JPMorgan Chase are numbered — though its unclear by how much. That's a key change from Dimon's previous responses to succession questions, in which his standard answer had been that retirement was perpetually five years away. Fears of a potential banking crisis are on the rise as interest rates stay elevated. Interest rates are now at their highest levels since 2001 as the Fed keeps an eye on inflation. Markets have already seen 1 regional bank fail this year, according to FDIC data. According to Moody's Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi, the longer interest rates stay high, the more the Fed risks damaging the economy. The stock market is in the early stages of a period of rising retail investor activity, and that could bode well for Robinhood Markets , according to Bank of America. The bank double upgraded the online brokerage and financial service provider to buy from underperform on Friday, raising its price target to $24 from $14, implying about 34% upside in the shares. "Retail engagement peaked in 2021 and then declined significantly through the > 500bps of Fed rate hikes and the 2022 bear market, troughing in 2023," Bank of America analyst Craig Siegenthaler said in a note. "However, following the emergence of a new bull market last year, we have monitored a rebound in multiple metrics at Robinhood Markets … and we expect this to continue through 2026." Siegenthaler said a rise in retail engagement can drive 44% organic growth, margin loan utilization and more than 60% year-over-year trading activity that can drive payment for order flow.
